The Cross-Age Mentoring Program: A Developmental Intervention for Promoting Students' Connectedness Across Grade Levels. The fastest growing youth mentoring model is school-based mentoring involving cross-age peer mentors (Katcher, 2005). To initiate the "Power of Circle" among our Harmony students we invite high school students who have role model qualities and good character for Harmony School of Innovation 6th grade students. Every week on Wednesdays our students are looking forward to meet with their mentors during their enrichment time. Every week the mentor students cover a subject on character education.
POWER of circle
This week our mentor students curriculum was " What is GOOD CITIZEN?" HSInnovation students learned what is a good citizen by providing scenarios and examples. They have compared the similarities and differences of being a good citizen vs. a bad citizen.
What are the determinants of being a good citizens? Here some examples our students came up with together.
There are many ways to be a good citizen.
* When you make a mess at lunch, you clean up after yourself.
* If you see a friend drop their books in the hall, you help pick them up.
* When your community holds a clean up day in your neighborhood, you volunteer to help.
* If you see a crime being committed, you call the police.
